25 March 2012
Esteemed culinary greats Tom Kitchin and Pierre Koffmann took to the stoves on yesterday's show. Wines were matched by Tim Atkins and this weeks special guest Aled Jones faced food heaven: Roast Beef or food hell: Anchovies.
Tom served up: Stuffed saddle of lamb served with red onion compôte cooked with Sichuan pepper Tim felt that what was needed was a red with a bit of spice to back up the flavours in the dish. He went for a Rioja in the end - the Marques de Montino Rioja Cranza 2008 a younger a mildly oaked example of the classic Spanish style.
Rioja Crianza 2008, Gran Vendema (similar style and price)
Cooking live next, Pierre produced: Cuttlefish bolognaise – straight from his 3 starred restaurant menu. Tim paired this with: the 2010 L'atelier Miquel Vermentino from the Languedoc. He felt the acidity and herbal tones in this Italian wine produced in France would work well with Pierre's unusual dish.
Paul Mas Vermentino 2010, Pgi Pays D'oc
Aled was lucky with the vote this week and got his raost beef in the form of a classic roast beef Sunday dinner. Wine to match: De Man de la Minade – Cotes du rhone villages
2007 Les Grappes D'antan, Cave De Villedieu, Cotes Du Rhone
Looking forward to next week as usual - Enjoy !
