05 March 2012
This weeks blog comes to you (very late ) from the Radisson Edwardian hotel in Manchester
2 x 2 Michelin starred chefs this weekend ! Sat Bains and Claude Bosi. Wine selections by Peter Richards. Special guest was the fabulous Chris Isacc – who doesn't love Wicked game ?? Chris's food heaven is – wait for it … sardines ! and his hell food is mint – I was sorry to hear that as I love the stuff : (
First up Sat served up: Salmon with brassicas (not as simple as it sounds but then it is sat Bains ! – the appliance of science) To compliment this amazing dish Peter thought a vodka or schnapps would work but as we are sticking with wine, he considered a tangy white like Leyda reserva Riesling .
In the end he selected Majestic's Composite 2009 sauvignon blanc from the ever reliable Marlborough region in NZ which he felt simply fitted with the dish overall. An absolute bargain at £5.99.
Next on the hobs Claude (who hates lamb} cooked Celeriac risotto. Again this sounds like a simple proposition but you don't get 2 stars for nothing – check it out. Peter wanted a good grown up white for this one and dabbled with a chardonnay initially (Honeycomb Journey's end from SA) but then opted for: Cornet & Sei Collioure 201 from M&S at £8.99 an undiscovered gem from the south of France – an "off piste" cracker made with speciality grapes like vermentino Grenache green.
Chris was lucky enough to get his food heaven in the form of a pan roasted potato tart with sardines and roasted tomatoes. Peter's wine choice for this was: Chart de asson balage.
Apologies for the tardiness this week - couldn't be helped and normal service shall be resumed at WinedayUk next week
Enjoy!
