Apologies for this blog not appearing last week - I was suffering from a trapped nerve in my shoulder and unable to do much of anything let alone typing ! More or less back to normal now - Enjoy! (What's happened to the studio guests though??)
Nick Nairn and Richard Bertinet were the chefs cooking live this week with Stephen Mangan as this week's special guest. Stephen's food heaven is black pudding and his hell food are figs. Wine expert Susie Barrie went to Hampton court in search of perfect wines to match.
Up first – Nick prepared: Halibut with langoustine, pickled cucumber salad, mint and yoghurt dressing Susie thought that an oaky Chardonnay like Wither Hills
would have worked if the Halibut had been served with a creamy sauce but to compliment the more asian accompaniments that Nick prepped, selected a Gruner Veltliner 2011 feeling that the light and herby traits made the perfect partner.
Richard put together some fantastic looking fruit tarts with freshly made pastry of course. Obviously it's a desert wine for this one and Susie opted for a Muscat – the Bontera 2010 – a very fruity yet light example.
Stephen got lucky with Heaven and hell and was served Black pudding fritters with a grilled pork chop, wilted spring greens and an apple and scrumpy sauce – Nice !
Susie chose an Old Vines Grenache Noir to accompany
Vidal Fleury Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre (similar)
