Probably the best known of the Cabernet varieties is the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Famous the world over and grown in pretty much every region that produces wine on earth. The Cab Sav's prominence in the world renowned Cabernet Sauvignon wines of Bordeaux led to it's rapid spread across the wine growing world as a revered quality variety. Only in recent times has the Merlot grape with which it is often blended, overtaken it in terms of planted acerage.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the love child of the Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon blanc varieties according to DNA testing and is possibly one of the best known and widely transplanted wine grape varieties in the world. Known colloquially as "Cab Sav" or just "Cab" it's a good reliable grower with a huge rnge of expressions. Cabernet Sauvignon wines are described as having a wealth of flavours from coffee to coconut depending on the terriors that develop in individual regions and plantations.

The variety despite it's reliable single variety reputation and easily marketable character is often blended with the likes of Merlot and Shiraz (Syrah) grapes. As cab sav grows in such a plethora of conditions, climates and altitudes it really does produce a vast range of delectable wines. as reflected by the range of wines you'll find on these pages.
