Grenache Wine

A grape of many names, the Grenache variety is another hugely popular and widely planted grapes in the world of wine production. A late ripening variety, the grape prefers the hot dry climates found in Spain - where it is known as Garnacha, the South of France and some of the Californian wine growing areas.

Grenache wines are typified by a reasonably high alchol content and by a soft character with flavours of berry and spice. It can have a fairly insipid colour and flavour so is often blended with varieties such as Syrah or Tempranillo to add fullness. It is however the predominant grape used in Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape so has a pretty noble heritage.

The Grenache sysmposium is in fact now approahing it's third year which gives you an idea of the importance of this grape in the wine world. The event is attended by the great and good of the wine industry and is dedicated to planning the grape's future and to celebrating it's general brilliance.

We feature over 40 Grenache/granacha wines on these pages from retailers including Majestic, Adnams Cellar & Kitchen, Your Favourite Wines and House of Fraser. You'll find single variety examples as well as various blends and rose wines. The Grenache grape has quite a sweet character so it is also used a lot in the production of fortified wines where the sweetness contributes to the higher alcohol content of 14-15% plus required.

By default the products on our pages are set out in list view as this gives you a lot more detail on the wines from their respective sellers. If you would rather see more wines per page and see who the merchant is for  particular wine, you can easily switch to grid or mini view from the top of the page.
